Produced by the Otuwe Shea Butter Cooperative of Northen Uganda, Shea Nilotica enables some of the world’s poorest women to support their families. Many of these women escaped torture at the hands of their rebel captors. The women collect the kernels fallen from wild shea trees, winnow and dry them in preparation for the mill that presses the butter. This shea kernel trade allows the women enough money to send their children to school and even start their own businesses.

Proper care of shea butter: Store in cool place out of direct light. In order to prolong life of shea butter do not store in humid places such as bathrooms. Shea butter may sometimes become grainy. Slightly melt the butter by placing jar in bowl of very hot water, stir and put in freezer until resolidified.
